Spanish EV Charger Mainboard Customisation Case Study--Helping a Spanish charging equipment company achieve product customisation

1. How the Customer Found Us

The customer is a Valencia-based charging equipment trading and assembly company with 15–20 employees. For five years, it bought finished EV chargers from Asian and European suppliers and distributed/installed them locally. After gaining deep insight into Spanish user needs, it decided to move from finished-product sourcing to defining its own product: customising EV charger mainboards and assembling locally.

Because the customer’s English was limited, it initially focused on European PCBA suppliers. Through a local Spanish industry event, it learned that we have a permanent team in Spain, including a Spanish-speaking team leader. After contact, it recognised our advantages in cost control, customisation flexibility, and delivery efficiency.

Three online meetings finalised cooperation:

  1. Requirements and technical parameters; our R&D cases and PCBA production capabilities.

  2. Detailed technical presentation in Spanish: CE certification, OCPP compatibility, dynamic load balancing; design drawings, specs, and sample PCBs sent.

  3. Commercial terms, price, delivery, IP ownership, sample timeline, acceptance criteria; contract signed electronically.

All communication was in Spanish. The project is now in sample production, with mass production planned for end-2026.

2. Demand for EV Chargers in Spain

Spain’s charging infrastructure market is growing fast:

  • Q2 2026: 56,682 public charging points, +2.9% quarterly.

  • H1 2026: public charging infrastructure grew 13.86%, reaching 56,933 active points by July.

  • EV charging station market: about US$56 million in 2026, expected to reach US$91 million by 2031, CAGR 7.4%.

  • EV charging equipment market: €450–500 million in 2026, projected to reach €1.8–2.2 billion by 2035.

  • 2025–2030 cumulative revenue: about €3.5 billion; production volume from 300,000 to over 663,000 units (+121%).

Policy drivers:

  • €104 million allocated for EV infrastructure and fleet projects, including €97 million for charging station installation.

  • Spain has achieved 67% of its 2026 public charging power capacity target under ACEA criteria.

  • H1 2026 BEV + PHEV sales: 141,143 units, market share 21.8%.

Market opportunities:

  • 17,821 built public charging points are not yet operational, about 23.9% of installed facilities.

  • Low-power charging below 22kW still accounts for nearly 70% of the public network.

  • Catalonia, Madrid, Andalusia, and Valencia concentrate 59% of public charging infrastructure.

3. Cooperation Model

Model: Customised EV charger mainboard PCBA + free shared mould + technology licensing.
