Overcoming RF and Thermal Challenges: XD PCBA Enters Prototyping Phase for European Smart Shading Drive Control Project
As the global smart shading industry accelerates toward wireless connectivity and silent operation, the demand for
highly reliable drive control PCBA solutions has never been higher. Recently, XD PCBA successfully advanced to
the prototyping phase with a leading European manufacturer specializing in high-end roller shutters, awnings, and
venetian blind drive systems.

The Challenge: High-Reliability Requirements
This European client, a key player in the architectural shading market, sought a reliable Asian manufacturing partner.
Their drive control modules—integrated with RF transceivers, motor drivers, and sensor interfaces—must operate flawlessly
under demanding conditions. Key challenges included:
l RF Signal Integrity: The boards required strict impedance control for stable wireless communication,
demanding precise PCB stack-up calculations.
l Thermal & Safety Demands: Controlling high-torque motors requires rigorous safety standards and
effective heat management.
l Strict Quality Control: The project demanded full compliance with IATF16949 and ISO9001 standards,
alongside rigorous Engineering Question (EQ) resolution processes.
The XD PCBA Solution: Precision Engineering
The partnership began when the client's engineering team contacted us seeking a second source.
To ensure absolute data security, a formal NDA was signed in September.
From day one, XD PCBA focused on proactive engineering support:
l Stack-up Optimization: We provided customized 4-layer FR-4 stack-up solutions to ensure the exact Er values
required for RF trace calculations.
l Cost-Effective Sourcing: We proposed functionally equivalent alternative components (with detailed tolerance analysis)
and verified them with the client's engineers to optimize costs without compromising performance.
l Transparent Collaboration: Every technical query—from solder mask specs to shield can placements—was meticulously
documented and resolved before quotation.
Next Steps: Hand-Delivery in Germany
The project is now in the prototyping phase. Our team is preparing the first batch of samples, which are scheduled to be hand-delivered
to the client's headquarters in Germany next month. This face-to-face delivery will allow for immediate technical review and testing.
Looking Ahead
This ongoing project reaffirms XD PCBA’s commitment to providing engineering-driven solutions for the smart building and industrial automation sectors.
Whether serving as a primary supplier or a reliable backup source, we deliver consistent quality, competitive pricing, and rapid technical support.
